Checking files in and out

Checking out a file with Workgroup Support enabled is equivalent to locking the file on the WebDAV server and downloading it in one pass. For instructions on enabling Workgroup Support, see Setting WebDAV preferences.

To check out a file with Workgroup Support enabled:

1 Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) the desired file on the WebDAV tab or Files tab.

2 Choose Check Out from the context menu.

When you check out a file from the server, synchronization automatically occurs in the background. If the file is already checked out by another user, or the file has been modified both locally and on the server since the last synchronization, Adobe GoLive will display the Network Status dialog box with an error message. If the file has been modified both locally and on the server since the last synchronization, you must first manually synchronize the file before you can check it out.

Having checked out the file, a pencil icon () appears next to the file on both the Files and WebDAV tabs on your machine indicating that the file is checked out by you and can now be edited locally. Other users see a locked padlock icon () indicating that the file is locked and read-only.

To check in a file with Workgroup Support enabled:

1 Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) the desired file in the WebDAV tab.

2 Choose Check In from the context menu.

3 In the Check In dialog box enter a comment, if desired, and click OK. If you don't want to enter a comment, enter nothing, and click OK.

Note: Comments are displayed in the History tab of the File Properties Inspector. To open the Inspector and read comments, select the file on the WebDAV tab, and choose Window > Inspector. Entering comments is only available if Workgroup Support is enabled.

Adobe GoLive uploads the file to the WebDAV server and unlocks it so that other users can check it out. The lock status icon displayed on your Files tab turns into a crossed pencil because checked in files are locally locked. You can only edit files that have been checked out of the WebDAV server.

Icons on the Files tab and WebDAV tab with Workgroup Support enabled indicate the check-in or lock status and editability of specific files as shown in the table.
